As such, we are pleased to offer in-person and On-Demand Group Fitness classes to inspire and support your efforts in getting active and connecting with members of the Queen's community in a safe, accessible, and enjoyable way! Our facilities have been reconfigured and our programs modified to align with provincial and public health requirements. Our residence based classes are made possible through a partnership with Queen's University Residence Life & Services.

Please remember to consider your personal fitness level and health status before participating in exercise programs. While the benefits of physical activity usually outweigh any risks, it is always best to check with a medical professional to find out if a new activity is right for you.

FALL & WINTER:

HOW DO I ATTEND A CLASS?
You can purchase a Group Fitness pass either by Fall or Winter semesters or full year (Fall + Winter) to attend ALL group fitness classes for the whole year.
If you don’t want to purchase a Group Fitness pass and want to pay as you go, you can book a drop-in session for 5$.
You must register for class exactly 2-DAYS in advance of the class offering, and it closes at the beginning of each class.
There are a limited number of spots in each class, so be sure to book your spots early!

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL?
There will be a free trial week where all Group Fitness classes will be free the first week of programming each Fall & Winter semester. You still have to register to secure your spot.

WHERE CAN I SEE WHAT INSTRUCTORS TEACH EACH FITNESS CLASS?

Step 1: Set Your Fitness Foundation
To become a group fitness instructor, it's crucial to have a solid foundation in fitness. Start by developing your own fitness level and knowledge through regular exercise, participating in group fitness classes, and exploring various workout styles to find what you like best!

Step 2: Obtain Relevant Certifications
Research and enroll in a reputable certification program that focuses on your chosen specialty. At the ARC, we recognize specific certifications per discipline which are high caliber, quality education certifications. More information here. These programs provide the necessary knowledge and skills to lead safe and effective group fitness classes and will require you to pass some sort of evaluation.

Step 3: Gain Practical Experience
While studying for your certification, look for opportunities to gain practical experience. Consider shadowing experienced group fitness instructors, volunteering at fitness events or community centers, or leading classes for friends and family. Practical experience enhances your teaching skills, confidence, and ability to handle different scenarios.

Step 4: Apply!
Once you feel ready, apply for a group fitness instructor position and prepare for an audition and interview.
