About the Club

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a dynamic martial art focused on grappling and ground-fighting techniques. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club provides a welcoming and safe environment for practitioners of all levels—beginners, intermediate, and advanced—to learn and refine their skills.

With the sport’s rapid growth and increasing popularity, BJJ has become one of the most recognized combat sports worldwide. As one of the few combative sports clubs on Queen's University campus, we are dedicated to fostering a positive, inclusive community that emphasizes teamwork, skill development, and mutual respect. Beyond self-defense, many find that Jiu-Jitsu builds incredible confidence, physical strength, and a supportive community. Whether you're looking to improve your technique, challenge yourself, or simply be part of a supportive team, our club welcomes you.

Due to high demand, spots in our club fill up quickly. To secure your spot, be sure to register as close to September 4th as possible.
If you happen to miss the registration deadline, please contact us via email or Instagram, and we'll do our best to add you to the club as soon as we can.

We hope to see you on the mat!

The Queen’s BJJ Club has been the highlight of my undergrad ever since I started. I’ve met some of my closest friends here, and it’s had a huge positive impact on both my mental and physical health.
Adam Phillips, Safety Officer
My Jiu-jitsu journey began in my first year at Queen's University. Growing up, I'd always been interested in combat sports and self-defense, but unlike my brothers and the men in my family, I never had the opportunity to get involved. I decided to sign up as soon as I could, and I haven't looked back. Not only do I feel more capable, strong, and healthy, but I've also found a community of truly wonderful people. Coming all the way from Germany to Canada, I found my home in this club, and I hope you will too
Julia Okerlund, Club President

2025-2026 Events:

Queen’s BJJ will be hosting two in-club tournaments this year, one in the fall semester and one in the winter semester.

We will be hosting several free women's-focused introduction to BJJ and self-defense sessions throughout the year. If you are interested in getting involved in an inclusive environment, please keep an eye out for notices and sign-up sheets.

Additionally, our club is affiliated with the Canadian University Jiu-jitsu Association (CUJA). This affiliation gives our members the chance to travel independently to scheduled events and tournaments throughout the year. CUJA connects university Jiu-jitsu clubs across Ontario and beyond, creating a network for students to share their knowledge, skill, and dedication to the sport.
