Get Started at the ARC

Staying physically active throughout university can be challenging, but it is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. The ARC can be intimidating, but we are here to help you feel welcome. This section provides resources to help students feel more comfortable!

ARC Tours

The Queen’s Athletics-Recreation Center (ARC) features five different floors and a variety of different spaces for students to use throughout the year. If your looking for a general tour of our all our floors and spaces, we offer 3x different tour types to suite your comfort level and exploration style:

In-Person Guided Tour

A staff member will guide a group of students through the ARC while explaining available amenities and everything else students should know! You can sign up for a tour on your own, with a group of friends, or with your whole residence floor!

In-Person Self-Guided Tour

Prefer to explore the ARC on your own? No problem! Check-in at the Q Services main desk and ask for the Self-Guided Tour Book. This tour option will start on the 3rd floor and work downwards through all 5 floors of the ARC, providing written text about each space along the route.

At Home Self-Guided Tour

NEW! Check out our quick ARC building layout and space overview from home!

Tips for First-Time Visitors

Make your first visit to the ARC easy, comfortable, and stress-free with these student-approved tips.

Best Times to Avoid Crowds:

If you prefer a quieter space to exercise, here’s when the ARC tends to be less busy during the school-year:

  • Early mornings (6-9am) – Great for a quieter start to your day while many students are in their morning classes.
  • Mid-afternoons (1-3pm) – Typically less busy between class blocks and lunchtime

What to Bring:

  • Your student ID – Swipe to access the facility
  • Clean indoor shoes – Keep equipment clean and safe for other users
  • Water bottle – Stay hydrated! Water fountains and bottle refill stations are available on-site

Bonus Tip: If you’re unsure where something is or how to use a piece of equipment, scan the QR code sticker located on the machine or ask a staff member.
