THE GAME
Court
Games will be played on a regular Badminton court with a 5 ft high net that will split the court in half.
For 2v2 – teammates must stay on their side of the court at all times (left or right side) and not cross the dividing line to adhere to physical distancing rules.
Format
Games will include best 2 of 3 sets. Scoring will go up to 21 points with the win by 2 point rule in place and a cap at 23 points. Games will end automatically 45 minutes after the scheduled start time. Games should start as close to the scheduled game time as possible. No game shall infringe on the game afterwards. Players should arrive early to allow for maximum playing time.
To start the game, the players will participate in a coin toss or 1 shot of a rock-paper-scissors game, while keeping a physical distance of 2 meters. The winning player will choose whether they will serve or receive first. The losing player will decide which side of the court they want. After each set, players may switch sides and the player who won the last set will have first serve at the beginning of the next set.
SERVING
To start, the serving player must serve from the right side of their court and cross court into the right side of their opponents’ court. The Server may call out the score, beginning with their score followed by their opponents score, before each serve. Serves may only be underhand, from below the waist and from within the correct service court. The ball must clear the net, go into the opposing side When the server has an odd number as their score, they will serve from the left side of the court, when they have an even number as their score they will serve from the right side.
RECEIVING
After a serve, the receiving player must hit/volley the shuttlecock back over the net and into their opponents side of the court.
SCORING
Sets will be up to 21 points, win by 2, cap at 23 points. A rally will continue until one of the players either hits the shuttlecock onto the ground, into the net (and it does not make it over), out of bounds or into the side trims.
