  POLICIES

Cancellations and Alterations to Advertised Class: All programs and services are subject to change without notice. While every effort is made to ensure information is accurate at time of print, we reserve the right to alter, change and/or cancel programs and services as required. In the event of a cancellation every effort will be made to contact you in advance. Notice will also be sent by text and posted on our social media accounts.

Refunds for Swimming Lessons: To qualify, all refunds must be requested before the 3rd class of the course, except under certain extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances would include medical issues preventing the individual from partaking in the program registered, program cancellations or alterations by Queen's ARC or any other issue approved by the Aquatics Coordinator. At the discretion of the Aquatics Coordinator, medical reasons may require the presentation of a doctor's note to qualify. Please contact the Aquatics Coordinator at aquatics@queensu.ca for cancellations. A $8 admin fee is applicable.

Help prevent a pool fowling: Pool fowlings result in pool shutdown of 1-13 hours. Please refrain from feeding children meals 1 hour before swimming. Water diapers are required for children who are not toilet trained. Refrain from entering the pool if you child feels ill.

Serious Medical Conditions: If you have a serious medical condition please remember to let your instructor or the lifeguards know about it. This will assist us in case of an emergency.

Showers and Outdoor Shoes: Health Regulations 565/90 states a cleansing shower with soap, from head to toe, must be taken before entering the pool. We also ask that outside shoes are taken off before entering shower areas and pool deck.

Lost and Found: Articles found on deck are handed to the Equipment Counter on LL2 and valuable items are given to customer services. Please also check in the lifeguard office.

What level should I be in? There are a few options to assist you in finding the right level.
  • Onsite information - show staff your child's previous progress report with the swim instructors recommendation
  • Review the swim level descriptions on the website
  • Call 613 533 6000 ext 78572 to speak to Aquatics Coordinator
  • Let us assess your child's swim level during a Rec Swim. Staff will be unable to assess children from in the water. Parent must be in water to assist.

What to expect from lessons: The Red Cross swim program allows students to progress comfortably and have tailored programs for their age groups. Please talk about your lessons with your child. Have realistic expectations so your child does not feel pressured to 'pass' a level or get a badge; focus on completing the skills at a progressive pace.

Missed classes: In the event a participant is unable to attend a class, make-up classes, refunds or credits for missed classes will not be offered.

Progress Reports: Participants receive a written progress report outlining their swimming abilities. They must complete all items on the progress report to move to the next level. If your child is away on the last day of classes, you can pick up your progress report at Customer Services. Progress reports will be held for 1 month following the session.

Red Cross Stickers and Badges: Guidance from Red Cross has prompted us to bring back swim lesson stickers and badges to our lesson programs. This means that when your child completes a preschool level they will receive a sticker and if they pass a Swim Kids level, they will receive a Badge. The cost of stickers and badges have been factored in to the price of lessons. If you would like to purchase any badges retrospectively, please go to customer services to do so. There is a small fee attached.

Questions and concerns: Your feedback is important to us!  A Head Instructor is available during lessons to answer any questions you may have. If you have a concern, speak with a Head Instructor right away so we can address it and ensure your child has a successful and positive experience.

Cell phone and electronics policy: The use of electronic recording devices capable of rendering a photograph or video are prohibited in the change rooms, pool deck or washrooms.

Food and Drink: Only water in a plastic container is permitted on the pool deck. Bring a reusable drinking container.

Personal Belongings and Lockers: Please lock all of your belongings in the lockers provided. Queens ARC will not take responsibility for lost or stolen items. Change room lockers are for day use only and you must provide your own lock; locks and contents will be removed if left overnight.

Duty to Report: Parents should be aware that the Child & Family Services Act requires that any
suspicion of child abuse be reported immediately to Family and Children's Services
