Cully completed medical school at Queen's University and the Family Medicine Residency in Nanaimo, British Columbia, where he was the resident team physician for the Nanaimo Clippers Men's Junior A Hockey Team. He is a previous athlete and assistant coach with the Queen's Men's Varsity Rugby Team. He lives in Kingston with his wife and chocolate lab.
