Q REC CLUBS Registration for 2025-26 A&R Recreational Clubs will open on Thursday, September 4, 2025
Athlete and participant safety is a top priority for Queen's Athletics & Recreation (A&R). Within all sports and activities, there exists the possibility of a participant experiencing a blow to the head, face or neck, or somewhere else on the body that causes a sudden jarring of the head that may cause a concussion. Concussions can pose a serious health risk with short and long term consequences if not recognized and handled appropriately. Proper management of a concussion can reduce the risk of complications. A&R takes concussion awareness, education, and management very seriously.
In compliance with Ontario Legislation, (Rowan's Law, Concussion Safety) ALL participants in A&R sanctioned programs and activities must agree to the following as a mandatory requirement of participation:
- Review the A&R Concussion Information Sheet (PDF).
- Agree to abide by A&R's Athlete Concussion Code of Conduct (PDF).
- Agree to follow the Recreation Concussion Management Removal/Return to Sport/Activity.
By checking the box during your Q REC CLUB registration you are confirming that prior to participating in any scheduled
recreational club activity you:
- Have reviewed the A&R Concussion Information Sheet (PDF).
- Have reviewed and agreed to abide by A&R's Athlete Concussion Code of Conduct (PDF), which amongst other things requires you to commit to:
- Fair play and respect for all; respecting other athletes, coaches, team trainers and officials.
- Concussion recognition and reporting, including self-reporting of possible concussion and reporting to a designated person when an individual suspects that another individual may have sustained a concussion. "If I suspect I might have a concussion I will stop training/competing immediately."
- Sharing any pertinent information regarding incidents of removal from sport with my institution and any other sport organization with which I have registered.
- Supporting the return-to-sport process and established protocols.
- Helping prevent concussions, by:
- Committing to zero-tolerance for prohibited play that is considered high risk for causing concussions.
- Acknowledging mandatory expulsion from competition for violating zero-tolerance for prohibited play that is considered high risk for causing concussions.
- Acknowledging that there will be escalating consequences for those who repeatedly violate the Concussion Code of Conduct.
Anyone suspected of sustaining a concussion should be removed from play immediately and should follow the Recreation Concussion Management
Removal from Sport/Activity Protocol. Return to Sport/Activity will only be permitted based on a clearance from a medical doctor.
